FICTION MARKETS Note:  You should always confirm any market listing you find by going to the publisher's website, if they have one.  Names and addresses change often. Writer's Market The granddaddy of all market listings, now electronic.  A fee-charging service, but worth it for doing broad market searches in fiction and non-fiction. Ralan Excellent market listing for short speculative fiction (SF, fantasy, horror).  Updated fairly regularly. Duotrope Regularly updated market listings for a wide range of genres. Karen Fox News and listings for romance novel publishers and agents. RWA If you're writing romance, you know this means Romance Writers of America, and you should join, even if only for the monthly magazine and market listings. About.com - top 10 literary magazines When you're doing literary/general and you want to start at the top (which you should).  The page also has a link to a list of literary magazines which are tops in prestige, if not pay rates. AGENTS & INDUSTRY NEWS Publisher's Marketplace Offers a free daily newsletter about industry news and book deals.  If you pay the monthly membership fee, you get more news and searchable databases of deals, agents, editors buying, etc.  Highly recommended. Agent Query A godsend to writers looking for agents.  Searchable by genre.  Profiles and preferences stated.  Often has links to the agent's website. WRITER FRIENDS & TEACHERS Dean Wesley Smith & Kristine Kathryn Rusch Two long-time, award-winning pros who know the business and are generous about sharing their knowledge.  Most of the accurate stuff I know abou this business comes from them.  The delusions are all mine.
